A MISPLACED SELF-IDENTITY.
~ This note is Part One of an ongoing and never-ending observation of awareness; it’s an exploratory word-smithing of a wordless arising from a subtle watchfulness of daily aware living. Together, let’s go behind the mind and beyond the word’s realm of supposed ‘knowledge’ to perhaps encounter an inner direct intimacy with the unknown. We’ll explore and express a seemingly slow dawning of identity beyond the ‘I Am’ that’s not in and of the person and the personal, but which may be at the core of awareness itself.
Allowing for continued growth in these very subtle matters, let’s state what one is seeing these days with a proviso that all this is an unfolding that may be vaguely ‘recognized’ but never, ever, fully revealed this side of life and the apparent living of it.
There is a certain non-personal identity in aware beingness, but – perhaps ;)- it’s not the ‘I Am’ that was originally and importantly recognized; that ‘I amness’ that for decades found its apparent confirmations in the mind-made inventions of the egoic personal, albeit spiritual, ‘me’. This ultimate identity we’re exploring here is not in anything that’s body/mind-based – that’s a collection of passing sentient, six-sense experience.
Ultimately, one is not that ‘I Am’ ‘belief’ that’s seemingly found at the core of the ‘me’ as a stand-alone ‘person’ who thinks and feels that he or she IS actually a separate entity in a separate world – a private world where one is bound to being a physical, self-centered individual who moves and shakes, thinks and feels that whatever’s happening will be, should be, can be or could be – controlled and managed to meet and hopefully exceed ‘my’ personal demands and expectations. That world, and that personal identity, is the one we – most of humanity – repeatedly encounter as we collectively and precariously cling to our numbingly normal, totally conditioned, pleasures and pains, desires and fears.
So, what is it about non-personal awareness that seems to have identity? Let’s explore that more deeply in Part Two. Perhaps you have an observation or comment to share here?
Love, and be well. 🙂
