Aware living, attention and action.
“You call me an idiot, a fool, and you immediately become my enemy, or I don’t like you. When someone calls you an idiot, a fool, be intensely aware at that moment, without any choice, without any condemnation, just to listen to what is said. If there is no emotional response, you will see there is no image being formed. So, to be aware of the reaction and not give it time to take root. The moment the reaction takes root, it has formed an image. To be aware needs attention, not just dreamily wondering about life. To attend at the moment of a challenge, to attend with all your being so that you listen with your heart, with your mind, so that you see clearly what is being said, then you will see there is no image at all.”
~ J Krishnamurti
In other words, “you”, the person, the mind, the ego – whatever one calls conscious experience – meet what is with its socially, culturally conditioned preconceptions aka beliefs, of right/wrong, good/bad which form the reactions that support, define and limit one’s direct experiencing of reality.
In deep and always deepening self-knowing, one meets – indeed greets! – life as it presents, openly, lovingly, without buying in to the mind’s problematic productions. Awareness – that which one ultimately, always and only, is, is not disturbed by mind’s conditioned conjuring’s. Reactions are lovingly seen as they present in awareness and passed over like the weather; there’s a greeting of life as it happens, with a ‘yes’! that’s immediately transformative, and one is free to act peacefully, joyfully, beautifully. To simply, richly and fully, rest in being free from beliefs, free from mind’s constant urging to become, to achieve, to believe. That which presents in that space, that emptiness, that unknown, is what one fully is – some call it love. 🙂
