EXPLORING THE KNOWN CANNOT LEAD TO THE UNKNOWN..
..TO REALITY.
Inspired by a Gustave DorΓ© engraving of Dante’s Virgil glimpsing Heaven this morning, I’m moved to write something here. First, this caveat: I make no claim to know but only to be; to sit here with a cuppa beside the window and venture apparently, foolishly, with this little exploratory digging into the surface of the nature of things, of life as it’s seemingly known and perhaps, in a pointed way, as it is – Unknown. What’s said and heard are words that, at best, may point beyond that unknowing toward the wordless oneness of being – that infinite knowingness that one IS, pure love, peace, beauty, and joy.
The mind’s conceptual renderings about reality, being thought in material form, “Like that carpet under the table” as J Krishnamurti says π conjure nothing as something, illusions as real, beliefs as substantial, fiction as fact. The mind, being only dual, either/or, creates an ‘other’, an ‘outside’ separate world out there in which its emanations apparently move, shake, and have their passing being. Its tools are very limited to its own imagination and its expressions of that world with words about words. Whatever seeming validity the ‘head’ has, it gets not from its cultivated beliefs but from the ‘heart,’ from a deeper inner and original ‘knowing‘. A recognition that the mind struggles – perhaps fluently but ultimately futilely – to express in erudite prose and splendid poetic hints and whispers of that infinity which it can never recognize, being itself limited to symbolic re-presentations of ‘what is’, aka reality. Indeed, the mind’s beliefs totally comprise the invented ‘person‘ with their personal, culturally conditioned world bubble that’s born, comes and goes, and dies entirely within the lifespan of the individual body/brain, apparently.
I’ll stop here, being a dash writer, not a long-distance one, π with this perhaps useful head’s-up advice one of my teachers proposed: That which one is, is somewhat approachable but not knowable by the mind alone. One must turn from outgoing to inner seeing, to watching the movements of one’s mind daily; to seeing exactly how the mind creates duality and personalizes experience, and from that direct recognition, one may be moved on to outgrow beliefs of the Trickster mind; to love and live profoundly guided internally and eternally. π
