Q: Are the Person and One not the same?
Yes, no, and yes! The answer to this question is beyond concepts, words and knowledge. In truth, in reality, we’re plunged into symbol and paradox, and the need to move thru and beyond all mind’s knowing. What follows is indeed, a fool’s errand, but we’ll attempt a wordy pointing anyway with a little zen raking for brevity and clarity, perhaps! 🙂
There is only changeless awareness; all else is illusion, which comes and goes. The finite activity of the supposed ‘person’ comes and goes; infinite aware being IS. Like space, it does not vary or move in any way measurable and is thus unknowable by mind and human experience.
Awareness is a constant ‘knowing presence’ without a ‘me’, a knower. Aware living is a living (timeless) paradox: Passive awareness is purely changeless, unattached, and absolutely aware only of itself, and simultaneously a witness to the changing, relative body-mind sensory environment as it passes. Therein lies the wholeness of one’s being-nature, which encompasses mind’s seeming contradictions and reality’s paradox in and as One.
Like the eye that cannot see itself, one can only know one’s self in being that which is unknowable. In being nothing other than awareness. One knows that one IS, and does not know what one is, there being no knower.
‘What is’ always changes (in time/space) and is discovered freshly, moment-to-moment, in aware living and one’s being peace, love, beauty, and joy beyond any knowing. There’s the wonder!
In sum: In truth, in dying before you die, knowing passes away. Abandon all personal, psychological desire, fear, and belief. Follow love, aka, the awareness one is; let it do the heavy lifting, sifting and sorting, and all is well. 🙂
